Founders and senior leaders have access to many advisers. The difficulty is not scarcity, but discerning what kind of conversation the moment requires.
Executive coaching
Executive coaching is often most valuable when the desired outcome is identifiable: developing leadership capability, changing behaviour, improving performance, preparing for a role or navigating a defined organisational challenge.
Consultancy
Consultants bring specialist knowledge to a problem. They analyse, recommend and often help implement. When the question is technical, strategic or operational, excellent consultancy is indispensable.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy addresses psychological suffering, relationships, patterns, history and emotional life within an explicitly therapeutic frame. It may be the right response where clinical care or sustained psychological treatment is needed.
Private counsel
Private counsel becomes relevant when the question cannot be separated from identity, meaning, responsibility and the architecture of a life. The apparent decision may concern an exit, succession, relationship or new direction; beneath it may be the question of who is speaking and what life is now asking.
Northstar draws upon psychological depth, clinical experience, organisational understanding and contemplative discernment. It does not replace legal, financial, medical or therapeutic expertise. It offers an independent place where the whole person can be present.
Which do you need?
If you know the outcome and need help reaching it, coaching may be appropriate. If you need expert recommendations, seek consultancy. If you require treatment or clinical support, psychotherapy may be right. If the outcome itself is uncertain because the deeper question has not yet become visible, private counsel may offer the necessary space.
